When Reduced Baby Movement Needs Urgent Attention

Every baby develops an individual pattern of movement during pregnancy. The type of movement may change as the baby grows—from sharp kicks to rolls, stretches or softer movements—but a noticeable reduction or change from your baby’s usual pattern should not be ignored. Contact your obstetrician, maternity hospital or labour room immediately when: Your baby is moving noticeably less than usual. You cannot feel your baby moving. There is a clear change in your baby’s normal movement pattern. You are worried that something does not feel right. Do not wait until the next day. Do not wait for your next scheduled appointment. Do not rely on a home Doppler, cold drink, sweet food or internet advice to confirm that everything is fine. A healthcare professional may need to check the baby’s hea
