But repeatedly sleeping poorly can affect: • mood • memory • concentration • decision-making • irritability • energy and motivation • the ability to manage stress Sleep difficulties can also occur alongside anxiety, depression, physical illness, substance use, medications or disrupted routines. Helpful foundations may include: • keeping a reasonably consistent sleep and wake time • reducing late-night screen exposure • limiting caffeine later in the day • avoiding alcohol as a sleep aid • keeping the sleeping space quiet and comfortable • discussing persistent sleep problems with a professional Sleep is not laziness.
